Ajmer is a holy city full of old monuments and surrounded by enchanting green hills. The stunning architecture of the mosques here entice you with its detailed trelliswork and the most delicate and intricate carvings.

The 13th century tomb of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti revered by both Muslims and Hindus is in Ajmer. Tourists throng Ajmer for the Pushkar Fair held on Kartik Purnima day every year.

Ajmer offers visitors a great opportunity to enjoy shopping. Ajmer is famous for its fascinating silver and gold jewellery in modern designs, curios, antiques, embroidered Jodhpuri shoes, bandhini sarees and ittar a special and unique local perfume.

Tourist Attractions in Ajmer

Most of the popular tourist attractions in Ajmer are pilgrimage sites. Apart from the Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti dargah, Ajmer features the pushkar lake which is thought to be the abode of Lord Brahma.

Adhai-din-ka-jhonpra is an Indo-Islamic masterpiece situated behind the dargah. One of the popular temples in Ajmer is the Nasiyan Temple. This Jain temple was built in the year 1865 in red color. This temple is a double storeyed hall with wooden gilts. Here you can find interesting images depicting scenes from Jain mythology.

Apart from religious structures, there are many forts, lakes and museums in Ajmer. Ana Saga Lake is an artificial lake surrounded by the magnificent hills. There is a charming and beautiful park on the banks of this lake where people enjoy strolling.

Taragarh Fort is situated beyond the Adhai-din-ka-jhopra and can be accessed after a one and a half hour climb. From here you can enjoy a stunning view of the city.

Many excursions are organized from Ajmer to the neighbouring Pushkar town. Pushkar is famed for its annual fair when the place comes alive. This fair is held every year during the months of October and November. Hindu pilgrims and tourists from all over throng Pushkar to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere.

Pushkar is home to at least 400 temples and is a major spiritual attraction. Jagat Pita Shri Brahma Mandir is one of the most popular temples here dedicated to Lord Brahma. Other famous temples here include the Ramvaikunth Temple, Mahadeva Temple, Varah Temple and the Savithri Temple that overlooks the pushkar lake. 26 kilometres from Ajmer at a place called Mangliyawas, you can find a rare 800 year old tree“kalpa vriksha”.

Tourists travelling between Jaipur and Ajmer stop over at Pachewar. This is a small village featuring an enchanting lake that attracts migratory birds, especially during winter.

The nearest airport to Ajmer is Jaipur, which is approximately 135 kms away.

Reach Ajmer by Rail:

Ajmer is a prime location that is located  on the main Delhi-Jaipur-Mumbai line. So majority of the express trains travelling on this route halt at Ajmer. 

Reach Ajmer by road:

You can reach Ajmer by road from both Delhi and Jaipur. It takes approximately nine-hours by road from Delhi to Ajmer.

Travel in the city of Ajmer:

There are excellent bus services that operate within the city and to Pushkar. There are private cabs and auto rickshaws that can be hired by those who do not want to travel by bus.
