Bharatpur also known as Lohagarh is one of the
important cities in the state of Rajasthan. It is
located fifty kilometers away from Agra, the city of
Taj Mahal. It was the capital city of Jat maharajas.
The city was named Bharatpur after Bharatha, one of
the brothers of Lord Rama. Bharata is the family
deity of the royal family in Bharatpur.
There are plenty of tourist attractions in
Bharatpur. Keolodeo National Park, Lohagarh fort,
the palace and Government museum are some of the
most noteworthy places to visit in the city. Brij
festival, Teej and Gangaur are the most colorful

Tourist Attractions:
• Keolodeo
National Park: It is the
most important tourist spot in Bharatpur. It is an
avifauna sanctuary that provides habitat to thousands of
rare birds. It is a home to more than 400 species of
aquatic birds. It has been recognized as one of the
UNESCO world heritage centers. There is a Shiva temple
named Keolodeo temple in this park. This park is the
only place for highly endangered Siberian Crane during
winters. You can see the colonies of spoon bills,
egrets, pelicans, herons, cormorants and grey herons in
this park. The paths are camouflaged by babul trees,
which make it easier to enjoy unobstructed view of the
birds.
• The Palace:
the Palace in Bharatpur is an awesome blend of Mughal
and Rajput architecture. The chambers of this palace are
adorned with patterned floor tiles, having intricate
designs. It houses a museum of antique collections that
are belonged to 2nd century.
• Lohagarh Fort:
Lohagarh fort was constructed by Jat Maharajas in
Bharatpur. It is one of the strongest forts in India. It
was protected by deep moats. The fort has two gates-
Ashtdhathu and Chowburga. The Ashtdhathu gate is
embellished with the paintings of majestic elephants.
Kishori Mahal, Moti Mahal, Kothi Khas and Mahal Khas are
some of the awe-inspiring monuments inside the fort.
Jawahar Burj and Fateh Burj are the most important
towers that were erected within the fortification of
Lohagarh. These towers were built by Maharaja Suraj
Malto to commemorate his victory over the Mughal and
British.
• Government
Museum: Government Museum
is a must see place in Bharatpur. It houses a vast
collection of things. It is a fine blend of Mughal and
Rajput style of architecture. It was built by different
Jat Maharajas in various phases. The apartments in this
museum are beautifully decorated with marvelous designs.
Kamra Khas, a building inside the fort was converted
into a museum. It showcases a great collection of
antiques, sculptures and ancient inscription.
