Bikaner

Bikaner is famed for its huge camel breeding and
research farm which is the largest in the world.

Located in the Northern part of Rajasthan, Bikaner
is 316 kms away from Jaipur, 330 km away from
Jaisalmer and 240 km from Jodhpur. This city is
bounded by Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Nagaur and Pakistan.
Bikaner is connected well to other parts of
Rajasthan and India by road, rail and air. The
closes airport is the Jodhpur airport. By train you
can access Bikaner from Jaipur, Delhi, Jodhpur and

Tourists throng to
Bikaner during winter i.e. between the months of
November and February to enjoy the pleasant weather.
Bikaner city was founded in 1488 AD by a Rathore prince
Rao Bikaji. This striking city was a result of the
prince’s efforts in converting a completely barren land
Jangladesh into what we see as Bikaner now. This city
became a princely state with Maharaja Ganga Singh’s
initiative.
Bikaner Tourist Attractions
There are many interesting and exciting attractions in
Bikaner.
Junagarh Fort –
Raja Rai Singh erected this fort in 1593 AD. He was
Mughal Emperor Akbar’s illustrious general of army.
There are a total of 37 palaces within the fortress
which is bounded by a moat. Palaces and pavilions inside
the fortress include Karan Mahal, Phool Mahal and
Chandra Mahal. You can find the most stunning and
fascinating antiques and priceless miniature paintings
inside a museum located within the fortress.
Lalgarh Palace –
This palace stands majestically as a testimony to the
European, Mughal and Rajput architectural fusion. This
palace was built in red sandstone in the year 1902 by
Maharaja Ganga Singh Ji. You will be enamoured by the
superb and expertly done filigree and latticework.
Jain Haveli – Havelis are ancient mansions that are
built to be luxurious. There are a number of enchanting
and beautiful havelis in Bikaner. Havelis were home to
the most affluent people of Rajasthan and feature
sprawling courtyards. You can find havelis that once
belonged to the Dagas, Vaids, Rampurias and Kotharis in
areas such as Daddhon Ka Chowk and Gogagate.
Bhandeswari Jain Temple-
One of the oldest shrine in Bikaner, the Bhandeswari
Jain Temple is decorated with exquisite and fascinating
mirror work, gold leaf paintings and frescos.
There are many other interesting tourist attractions in
Bikaner such as the Camel Breeding and Research Farm,
Ganga Golden Jubilee Museum, Deshnoke Temple, Gajner
Palace, Gajner Wildlife Sanctuary and Shri Sadul Museum.
