Jodhpur, also known as Sun City, is
one of the prominent cities in the state of
Rajasthan. It is known as Sun City, because it has
bright and sunny weather 365 days in a year. It was
founded by Rao Jodha in the year 1459. Initially, it
was the capital city of Marwar state in Rajasthan.
It is surrounded by a ten kilometer long wall, which
has eight doors leading to various places in
Jodhpur.
Jodhpur is a famous tourist destination. The
landscape of the city is gorgeous. It boasts of

Mehrangarh
Fort:
Mehrangarh Fort is the most splendid fort in Rajasthan.
It is located on a hill. It was founded by Rao Jodha in
the year 1459. You need to cross seven gates to reach
the fort. These gates have the marks of various battles
fought in the past. The fort is a home to several
palaces in Jodhpur. Moti Mahal is one among them, which
has the throne of the Sringar Chowki. The fort has
galleries such as Elephant Howdahs, Daulat Khana,
Paintings, Palanquins and the Folk Musical Instrument
gallery.
Umaid
Bhavan Palace:
This palace was built by Raja Umaid Singh. It boasts of
three hundred and forty seven rooms. A special type of
sandstone called Chittar sandstone is used for the
construction of this palace. It was converted into a
heritage hotel in the year 1977.
Rai
Ka Bag Palace:
This palace was built by the queen of Maharaja Jaswant
Singh-I in the year 1663. Now, this palace houses the
income tax office.
Mandore
Garden:
Mandore Garden in Jodhpur has a high rock terrace that
makes it a popular tourist attraction. It is open for
the tourist from 9 AM to 8 PM. The Chhatri shaped
cenotaphs of Jodhpur’s former rulers can be seen here.
The hall of heroes is another beautiful attraction in
this garden. It is devoted to various deities and Rajput
folk heroes.
Achal
Nath Shivalaya:
Achal Nath Shivalaya was constructed by the queen of Rao
Ganga in the year 1531. It consists of the Garbh griha,
Kirtan Bhawan and Mandap Bhawan, which are made up of
carved Chhitar stone.
Government
museum:
Government museum is located in the middle of the Umaid
Public gardens. It includes a wide collection of
weapons, miniature portraits, arts and crafts. You can
see the portraits of rules and manuscripts of Jain
Trithankaras. It also has a library and zoo.
