Mount Abu is the highest peak located
in Aravalli Range in Sirohi district, Rajasthan.
It served as a summer resort for the
Rajput kings in the past. It was a favorite tourist
spot to British people in summer, when they ruled
India. It helped them to escape the dusty heat of
the plains in Rajasthan. It was a home to saints and
sages.
The ancient name of this peak is
Arbudaanchal. |
Important Tourist Spots:
Delwara
Jain Temple:
Delwara
Jain temple complex encompasses two temples- Vimal
Vasahi and Tejpal temple. Vimal Vasahi temple dedicated
to the first Tirthankar Adinath was built in the year
1031. The temple consists of an image of Adinath and its
courtyard has 57 identical cells, each having the image
of Buddha. You can see the House of Elephants, featuring
images of elephants in front of the temple. Tejpal
temple dedicated to the 22nd Tirthankar
Neminath was built in the year 1231. The most exquisite
feature of this temple is the intricacy of marble
carving. The marble is so fine in some places that it
looks almost transparent.
Gaumukh
Temple:
It is another popular tourist attraction in Mount Abu.
The meaning of Gaumukh is “from the mouth of a cow”. A
small stream flows from the mouth of a beautiful cow
made of marble in this place. A marble figure of Nandi,
the holy vehicle of Lord Shiva can also be seen here.
You can reach Gaumukh temple by taking a path with 750
steps.
Shri Raghunathji Temple:
This temple is devoted toLord Vishnu (Raghunath is
another name for Lord Vishnu). It houses a beautiful
statue placed by a famous preacher Shri Ramanand.
Adhar
Devi Temple:
Adhar Devi temple is located three kilometers away from
Mount Abu. It is carved out of a massive rock. You can
reach there by climbing 365 steps.
Sunset Point:
As the name itself implies, this place offers a
marvelous view of sunset. It has an amusement park for
kids as well.
Honeymoon Point:
Honeymoon point also known as Andra point offers an
excellent view of the plains and valleys.
Guru Shikhar:
Guru Shikhar is located fifteen kilometers away from
Mount Abu. It is the highest point in Rajasthan. At the
top of the summit, there is a temple called Atri Rishi
Mandir. This point offers splendid views of the
landscape around.
Achalgarh:
Achalgarh is a magnificent fort in Mount Abu and it
houses an ancient Shiva temple called Achaleshwar
Mahadeva. It includes plenty of exciting features, such
as a brass Nandi, three stone buffaloes around a tank
and the figure of a king shooting at them with his bows
and arrows. You can also view a group of beautiful Jain
