Pushkar is an important town in the district of Ajmer, Rajasthan. It is one of the oldest towns in India. The famous Chinese traveler Fa-hien made a note of this town in his writing.

Pushkar is renowned for its fairs and festivals. It boasts of many temples; out of them Brahma temple is the most famous one.

IT is believed that Lord Brahma killed a demon named Vajra Nabh with a lotus flower. The petals of the lotus floated down to earth and landed in three places. They sprang up as lakes in Pushkar.

A holy dip on the day of Kartika Poornima in the lake is believed to give salvation.

 Famous Tourist Spots:


Pushkar Ghats: Pushkar has fifty two ghats surrounding the lake. Two of them are more important- Varaha Ghat and Brahma Ghat. It is believed that Lord Vishnu appeared at the Varaha Ghat in the form of a wild boar and Brahma took bath in Brahma ghat. The pilgrims take bath in holy waters. Religious ceremonies are performed in the lake.

Brahma Temple: Brahma temple in Pushkar is the only temple dedicated to Lord Brahma in India. It was built in 14th century. It is an important pilgrim center for the Hindus. It lies in the Pushkar valley and is thronged by tourists for its scenic beauty. The temple is an exquisite marble structure that can be accessed by marble steps. It boasts of a beautiful red spire. The entrance of the main shrine features the image of swans. In front of the shrine, silver turtle figure is embossed on the floor. The vicinity of the silver turtle and the inner walls are studded with silver coins. You can see the life size image of Lord Brahma with four hands and four faces in the main shrine. The walls of the temple are decorated by the gorgeous images of Goddess Saraswati, wife of Lord Brahma. There is a small cave near the temple, where the temple of Lord Shiva can be found.

Savitri Temple: Savitri temple is one of the most famous temples in Pushkar. It stands behind the Brahma temple. You need to climb a long series of steps to reach this temple. You can get the mesmerizing views of the surrounding landscapes from there.

Papamochini Temple: Papamochini temple in Pushkar is dedicated to a deity called Ekatashi Mata. It is believed that the goddess reprieves her followers from all sins. There is a lake on the left side of this temple, where the pilgrims take a sacred dip. On the other side, there is a Sandy Mela Ground.

Shri Venugopalaswamy Temple: This temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The south Indian style of Nithyanaimithika worship is followed here.

The distance from Delhi to Pushkar is around 392 kms while the distance from Ahmedabad to Pushkar is around 526 kms. The roads are good and traveling for any distance is not going to be problematic
