Kollam is one of the most important cities in Kerala. It is also known as Quilon or Desinganadu. It is renowned for coir manufacturing and cashew processing. It stands along the famous Ashthamudi Lake.

Places To Visit In Kollam:

 

Thirumullavaram Beach: It is one of the fascinating tourist spots in Kollam. The unspoilt beauty of this beach lets you enjoy tranquility and complete peace of mind. The soft sands, cool sea breeze and scenic surroundings make your vacation unforgettable in lifetime. You can enjoy plenty of other activities like sunbathing and swimming in this beach. The waves are pretty calm and so it is ideal for children as well.

Palaruvi: Palaruvi waterfalls in Kollam district is a sought after picnic spot for tourists from all over India. Accessing to Palaruvi via the dense forests offer a mesmerizing experience. The mist clad blue hills and green valley form an enchanting backdrop to the milk white waterfalls. Having a cool shower in the waterfalls can offer a refreshing experience.

Shendurny Wildlife Sanctuary: It is located 70 kilometers away from Kollam. It is situated on the banks of river Shendurny. You can see barking deer, elephants, vipers, boars, Nilgiri langur, spotted deer, bonnet macaque and python in this sanctuary. It is a home to diversified forms of vegetation; some of them are medicinal plants.

Thangasseri: Thangasseri is located five kilometers away from Kollam. The emnaing of Thangasseri is gold village. In olden days, gold was used to trade in this place. You can see Portuguese fort and churches built in 18th century in this village. You can also see the 144 feet lighthouse, constructed by the British in 1519 here. It has a three kilometer long beach as well.

The Cave Temple: The cave temple is one of the important attractions in Kollam. The temple is carved out from a massive piece of rock, lying amidst a paddy field. It gives the impression of a sleeping elephant, if you view from a distance. The temple is also known as Kottukal Thirukovil. It has two main rooms. The main deity is Lord Ganesha. Lord Shiva, Hanuman and Nandikeswara are other deities found here. There is well in the temple premise that never dries up.

Mayyanad: Mayyanad is a gorgeous village in the district of Kollam. It is situated on the banks of Paravur Lake. It is famous for its shrines and temples. Subramanya temple is the most important place to visit here.

Sasthamkotta Fresh Water Lake: Sasthamkotta fresh water lake is also known as the “queen of the lakes”. It is located 29 kilometers away from Kollam city. It is the largest fresh water lake in Kerala. It boasts of an ancient temple called Sastha temple, dedicated to Lord Ganesh and Ayyappa.

Kollam does not have an airport of its own .The nearest airport is the Trivandrum airport located at a distance of around 70 kilometers
